About the meeting
In July 2015, BioFuelNet hosts its annual Advanced Biofuels Symposium (ABS) just after the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in Montreal, which is the world’s largest industrial biotechnology event. The ABS takes place right in downtown Montreal at the beautiful Omni Hotel.
The theme of the Symposium this year is: Advanced biofuels in a shifting energy landscape
The Advanced Biofuels Symposium brings together multi-disciplinary experts in the energy field, including stakeholders in academia, industry and government, to discuss key issues related to the development of the advanced biofuels industry.
Presentations, discussions and networking sessions will cover key areas of advanced biofuels development, such as:
- Integrated biorefineries (thermal & biological)
- Conversion technologies (pyrolysis, gasification, biological conversion, emerging technologies)
- The development of low-cost sustainable feedstocks
- Aviation biofuels
- Forestry-based biofuels
- National and international policy
- Combustion & engine operations
- Biofuels economics
- Life-cycle analysis
- Supply-chain logistics
This Symposium also enhances coordination of research efforts in Canada, and fosters new ideas for research, collaboration and business development, in order to pave a sustainable path toward the commercialization of advanced biofuels.
Jim Lane, Editor & Publisher of Biofuels Digest, Biobased Digest, BioPower Digest, 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy (etc.) and CEO of Ascension Publishing, will be our keynote speaker this year! His keynote address will take place on the morning of July 23rd, and he will then participate in a panel discussing international perspectives in a changing energy landscape.
Symposium Dinner 2015
The highlight of the ABS in previous years has been the Symposium Dinner! This year, the dinner will take place on the evening of Thursday, July 23rd, 2015. Participants will be dining in the old port of Montreal in a private garden terrace, where there will be entertainment and a seated dinner. The dinner includes a 4-course meal and your choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. A magical evening and a golden networking opportunity is in store!
Opening cocktail reception and poster session
The opening cocktail reception and the main poster session will take place at the Omni Hotel at 6 pm on July 22nd, 2015.
HQP Workshop 2015: IMPROV-ing Science Communication
Date: 22 July 2015, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Location: Hotel Omni Mont-Royal, Montreal, Quebec
In this workshop, we will tackle ways to better communicate science and research findings in writing, orally and using social media. Participants will also engage in fun and interactive improvisational exercises to learn to discuss their scientific research more spontaneously and directly with a general audience. The goal is also for the scientists to pay dynamic attention to their listeners and to connect personally with their audience.
